Mother’s Day Poem
by JOLENE CREIGHTON
I’d rather die in the gutter Mother
Than ever live with you.
I’d rather battle the living dead
Or eat a stinky shoe.
I’d rather have a nasty cold
Or have my eyes torn out,
Be bitten by a rabid bat
Or riddled with the gout.
I’d like to live so far away,
Perhaps beneath the sea
Or maybe under a great big rock
Or high up in a tree.
And I would walk ten million miles
Just to get away.
And I’d jam my finger in my brain
If you made me stay.
I hope you don’t get too offended
At these things I’ve said.
I just think we’ll be better off
Once you’re finally dead.
