My main research interests are within the broad area of visual computing, which involves computer graphics, machine learning and computer vision. Recently, I mainly have concentrated on deep learning-based sketch-based 3D object retrieval techniques.

I have great interest in diverse topics of 3D model retrieval, such as: Query-by-model, Query-by-sketch, Partial similarity retrieval as well as 3D model alignment.
My PhD supervisor is Asst. Prof. Henry Johan. My NIST supervisor is Computer Specialist Afzal Godil. My Texas State University Postdoc supervisor is Assoc. Prof. Yijuan Lu.

During my PhD period, I mainly targeted visual similarity and hybrid approaches to solve different retrieval issues. I also conducted a novel research on 3D normalization and developed a simple but effective algorithm based on the idea of minimization of views’ projection area. In NIST, as a guest researcher, I concentrated on local features and Bag-of-Words framework for non-rigid object retrieval.

Short Bio
Dr. Bo Li is a Tenured Associate Professor in the School of Computing at the University of Southern Mississippi. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science
from Nanyang Technological University (Singapore) in 2012. He was a teacher in the School
of Science at Xi’an Polytechnic University (China) from 2002 to 2007. From 2005 to
2007, he was a senior software testing engineer in ZTE Corporation in Xi'an, China. He was a
Guest Researcher in National Institute of Standards and Technology (Gaithersburg, Maryland) from 2011 to
2012. From 2012 to 2014, he was a Postdoc in Texas State University (San Marcos, Texas). He was a Non-Tenure Track Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Central Missouri (Lee's Summit, Missouri) from 2015 to 2016. His
current research interests in visual computing focus on deep learning-based 3D scene understanding. He is the recipient of the top first winners of 2013 and 2016 Eurographics
SHREC competitions in large-scale sketch-based 3D retrieval track, range scan
track, and low-cost depth-sensing camera track. He has published more than
30 journal and conference papers, including prestigious ones like CVIU, IJCV, and ICMR.
