Scope

This workshop seeks to bring together the participants’ expertise in machine learning to achieve a better understanding of the problem and devise novel approaches to transfer learning. In addition to new approaches, applications and evaluation metrics, there is also a need to develop consensus on standardized domains and testbeds and identify new subproblems and representational choices.  We  welcome submissions from experimentalists, theorists, and psychological modelers with contributions that deal with transfer in classification, inference, reactive control, and planning tasks. We also welcome work cast in logical, probabilistic, and other theoretical frameworks. Initial attempts at transfer learning have suggested that knowledge representation plays a crucial role in any form of transfer. We particularly seek contributions from logic and KR communities to better understand the conditions under which successful and useful transfer can be expected. We also seek to learn from the experiences of cognitive and computational psychologists.

Attendance policy

This workshop is open to all for participation.

Initial Submission (now closed)

Submitted papers should be no longer than 4 pages, and should be formatted according to the ICML guidelines. The complete guidelines can be found in

http://www.icml2006.org/icml2006/templates.html

Please note: The papers need not be prepared for double-blind review as required in the guideline.

Papers should be submitted in PDF format by email to one of the co-chairs. Please see the contact information for the email addresses. Selected papers will be allotted time for presentation and discussion at the program and will also be published in an online proceedings to be made available at the workshop website before the event.

Camera-ready Submission (full papers and poster papers, due June-09)

Final versions of accepted full papers and poster papers should be no longer than 4 pages (including references, footnotes)  and formatted according to the same guidelines as before (http://www.icml2006.org/icml2006/templates.html). Each paper/poster has been reviewed by two reviewers. Please use the reviewers' suggestions and comments in preparing the final version. Please submit the camera-ready copy in PDF format to michael@aimachines.com by June-09. In addition, please attach a short bio (200 words max) and a picture (JPEG) of each author.  Note that these additional materials do not count within the 4 page limit. Finally, please submit your poster (if you have an accepted poster paper, recommended format is 36in(W) by 44in(H)) or your presentation (if you have an accepted full paper), in  PDF/PPT format by email to michael@aimachines.com, by June-16. You may continue to make changes to the contents of your poster/presentation after submission.  Details about poster/presentation sessions and the schedule will be posted soon.
